what is the difference in a new hard drive and new hard drive upgrade kit?
we need to buy another hard drive as ours is only 40 gig and so slow. was looking around on the net and saw new hd's and new hd upgrade kits. was wondering if they are the same thing. also we have win xp on the old one, will i have to buy win xp to put on a new internal drive?
If you computer is slow, it isn't necessarily your HD. If you are just needing more space you can add another HD. Keep the one you have in your computer now as well. You will have 2 HD's in your computer. A "kit" usually includes a cable, software, and 4 mounting screws. If you are looking to replace your excising HD, You will have to install a copy of windows. You cannot move windows from one HD to a new one and it work. Way back when, Windows '98, You could simply do this, but now with coding you cannot. Usually a "kit" is also known as a retail package. But as I said if your computer is slow, usually the HD isn't the culprit.
