If I got a tube distortion pedal...?
and played it through my old solid state on the clean channel, would it sound like a tube amp?
a little but not close enough to fool many people
you are limited to the weakest link in the audio chain, (in your case, the amp)
a cheap guitar though a great amp sound awesome while
a great guitar though a cheap amp sounds like crud.
Upgrade your amp before putting money into pedals.
The only distortion pedal I use with tubes is the Damage control Womanizer. Its high for the price but it does use a full power tube circuit and sounds great.
