Power issues on Kenwood KDC-MP342U Head unit.?
I put a kenwood KDC-MP342U head unit in my 2000 Durango along with 4 Kenwood Excelon 6.75''s 45 RMS each, for awhile it was great. Recently it is starting to restart during mid play. Once i turn it up to about 24/35 volume with Bassboost 2, bass+8, treble +8, and bass booster on my iphone EQ it doesnt go past 19-20/35 volume. It varies with how much bass i have on at once, without any i can get to about 30 before it restarts. I know its a power issue because the display flashes along with the bass and goes from bright to dim with each kick. It seems like its not getting enough power to operate my speakers and head unit. The kenwood unit has a auto shut off once it reaches a certain ampage but the odd thing is, it only does this on certain days, Some days it goes max, others it shuts off at 14. I have a new battery and new alternator the wiring seems fine. I need some help locating the problem, its its power or wiring issues.
I just got the same Kenwood head unit and had the same exact problem, took the car to a mechanic to see if the alternator was screwed up and it works fine.
Even had the 8-gauge wiriing upgraded to a 4. Problem was, that the head unit / radio can't take that much power; the original installer tried a different radio in place of my Kenwood and it worked fine. You've shorted out your head unit.
