What causes a guitar string to get loose on a double locking floyd rose guitar?
I have an Ibanez RG120 and replaced its origional tremolo system for a floyd rose. I started to play it with the floyd rose and it was so much better, better than what I expected. But then I replaced the srings because the other ones were getting old. When I started to play my guitar with the new strings, they kept getting out of tune. I figured that it was because the strings were stretching. Then I used my tremolo bar and the G string snapped off from the bridge. I put the string back, tried to tune it but the string snapped off again. I bought a new string but the same thing happened. Then finally i got the string on and didn't snap off, but when i tap the tremolo arm slightly, it gets that same string out of tune. And it's always that string, all of the other strings keep thier tune. If any one knows what the problem is please post it. Thank You.
Without actually examining the guitar it is pretty difficult to say with any certainty. There are a lot of reasons why it could be going out of tune on that string. Be sure to use good quality strings. Be sure that the tremolo was properly installed. Be sure that the springs are tightened up so that the tremolo returns all the way to the body after it is used. Make sure that the nut lock is working correctly. I am curious, is the Floyd Rose a new unit or a used unit? Some of the problems that you are describing remind me of similar complaints from guitarists who had installed a used tremolo system. Used systems often have locks that are worn and do not properly lock the strings down. Likewise, they often have parts that are worn such as the fulcrum edges and they do not return to true zero pitch. Without inspecting the instrument it is difficult to diagnose the problem. I suggest taking the guitar into your local music store that has a good repair facility and let them check it out for you.
