When to use the sustain pedal in Moonlight Sonata?
I am wondering in which places to use the sustain pedal or whether to sustain throughout? Thanks!
If you had a true fortepiano you'd mash it down at the beginning and achieve lift-off at the end. With a modern piano with much longer sustain times, it is up to the discretion of the pianist when to pedal.
.... don't sustain notes too long and don't play too loudly.
