how do i properly set up these electric guitar effects pedals?
I have a dime crybaby from hell wah, a digitech stereo flanger, and metal master distortion pedals. I've looked online, and it says the proper order is wah, distortion then flanger, but how do i keep my clean tone up to best volume and using distortion also with the wah in my chain? It seems that my wah is taking away from my clean/distortion volume unless i have the wah down, but then with the wah down, it's way too much distortion and when it's clean it sounds off, like when I try and play clean parts from Pantera's "This Love" or Metallica's "Fade to Black" or "Welcome Home Sanitarium" it all just doesn't sound the way it should, I just got the wah today in the mail, and have been waiting a while and have been looking forward to getting it, I just want to keep the same, and correct sound, that I'm used to, because I know that what I'm hearing isn't what it should sound like. If there's anyone who has the same effects as I do, all advice and help would be appreciated, thank you.
The wah pedal should be clicked into the bypass (off) position when you're not using it. The pedal works by filtering out certain frequency ranges depending on the position of the pedal. So, nothing will sound "normal" as long as the effect is turned on. Set the volume on the wah pedal so that you get the desired loudness when you click on the wah and begin to use it.
Having the flanger last in the chain is good. You can get a crazier distorted wah effect if the distortion is before the wah in the chain. Having the distortion in the chain after the wah gives a more subtle effect. Experiment and see what's most useful to you...
