Which is better? A phase Shifter pedal or a Digital Delay Pedal?
So i'm looking into buys a Boss DD3 Delay pedal but i also want a phase shifter and i'm not sure which is better. I want your opinons and before u say get both...my dad put a limit on what i can buy hes like pick one and stick wiht it.
Personally, I much prefer delay pedals to phase shifters, as I find that a real tight delay can fatten up the sound, while longer delays are useful for harmonizing and for improving your timing and listening skills. Also, the delays don't tend to color the sound as much as phase shifters. I don't hear phase shifters on very many songs, either, so if you trying to duplicate somebody's signature sound, then that should pretty much be the guideline: if they use a phase shifter, you're not going to get their sound without one.
However, here are some other options:
Try looking through the clearance section at some of the big online retailers, and even eBay. You might find a decent multiple effect unit for dirt cheap that gives you both. I picked up a Korg AX-100 for 40 bucks that sounds pretty decent and as an expression pedal included. It's not the sturdiest thing I've ever owned, but then again, if it breaks, I'm only out 40 bucks. Some sites to check would be http://www.musicians friend.com http://www.zzounds.com and http://www.smash.com as well as doing a google search on any pedal you want to find out more about, or a better price. The multi effect pedals have the advantage of only needing one extra cord.
If you want higher quality, try the multiple effects from Zoom and or Digitech, etc. another option would be the Line6 tone core effects.you could choose either the delay or the phase shifter, and then buy the other module later, since they have interchangeable modules. Thatg way, you could just buy another pedal base later and have both pedals. They also sell a development kit, so you can just download which ever effect you want to use at the time.
