Why does my sustain pedal do the opposite of what it should?
I just got a used Roland RD-500 for Christmas, and everything works how it should except for the pedal. I have the M-Audio SP2 sustain pedal, which has worked on every other keyboard I've had. Now I have the age-old problem with my pedal: when I engage it, it does not sustain the notes, and when I don't engage it, it does sustain the notes. I have read about it when it concerned a Roland JUNO and various Yamahas, but I can't find how to fix it on an RD-500. What should I do?
This is a problem I've had with an SP1 sustain pedal in the past. The issue was that when the pedal was turned on, it would read the state the pedal was in (normal or pressed, I suppose) and whatever state that was would be it's "non-sustain" state. Or in other words, if I held the pedal down when I turned it on, then it would only sustain when I wasn't pressing it.
I don't know if this can help you at all, but seeing as you haven't gotten any other help, I thought I'd throw it out there. Try unplugging it and plugging it back in and make sure it's not being held down when the keyboard (or the software or whatever) is being turned on. Or try powering the keyboard and off without the sustain pedal attached and then try it again.
If it's used, it's also possible the jack for the pedal is slightly damaged.
If none of this helps, good luck on getting it fixed.
