Plugged amp modeler output into guitar input by mistake, now guitar sounds noisy and fades out?
I have an Epiphone Les Paul (made in China custom) and Line6 Pod 2.0. Everything sounded great previously but tonight in the dark I accidentally plugged the cable from the guitar into the Pod output. Output level on the pod was pretty high and it was on. After that I hooked it up right but noticed bad sounds and fading in and out. I hooked up straight to a clean amp but guitar sound is noisy, fades in and out, with a scratchy noise that also fades in and out. When I start to play it totally fades out until I stop. After silence a note or two will come through but start to play again and it fades right back out. I confirmed same problem through my bass amp which I know is good, and my Washburn bass plays clean with no noise thru both amps. This problem is isolated to the Epiphone and it's unplayable.
What happened? What might be damaged, what might it cost to repair? Thanks!
Only a good guitar tech can tell you for certain but, it sound to me like you totally fried all the electronics in your Les Paul. I'm guessing that you will need to replace at the very least, all your controls and wiring and perhaps even your pickups but again only a guitar tech can tell you the extent of the damage. It might be a good time to just upgrade to a Gibson Les Paul. It will depend on what you can have it repaired for.
You should always have a small flashlight with you on stage just for that reason. You should also NEVER, EVER, under any circumstances ever plug your guitar into a live amplifier. That's why they make a standby switch, you know? Over time, that takes a real toll on the amp itself.
