Is this a case of metaphor gone mad?
I dreamed I was sneaking with some with some professor to have a smoke (I don't smoke anymore but occasionally sneak one form a friend). We were going up to the 11th floor. We go into the elevator with a few other people and I assumed we were going up to the roof of a college building. The elevator stopped, and then it went sideways for a ways. I was so happy! I exclaimed "This elevator goes sideways, just like in my dreams!"
I'm happy to add that the elevator did indeed go to the top (remember that syaing "her elevator doesn't go all the way to the top?)
What is the meaning of my dream, other than the obvious part - that sneaking cigarettes is a little crazy? You don't have to be or be with a professor to know that.
Let's break it down.
1) You were being guided by a teacher figure.
2) You chose to return to something you have given up.
3) As you traveled, you took an unanticipated direction.
4) The unanticipated direction made you happy! And you have dreamed about this direction before.
5) You eventually reached your original destination via this unexpected detour.
We can then speculate that this dream is telling you that:
1) your Higher Self is guiding you in this matter (and in the dream),
2) that in seeking to reach a goal of yours, your currently planned path may contain unexpected detours,
3) that the detour may contain an unresolved issue from your past,
4) that you will be happy to have it resolved or healed, and the healing will not be as painful as you fear it might, and
5) that this unexpected detour will lead you to your goal at the end of this particular journey.
I believe dreams are our inner wisdom, our Higher Selves, telling us what we need to know.
