What are the best guitar effects pedals?
Like what are to best pedals for each effect? I've heard the Holy Grail is the best reverb and the Dunlop Crybaby is the best wah. What are the best pedals for say; delay, distortion, overdrive, flanger, phaser, chorus and so on? I'm asking out of curiousity, don't plan to buy.
This is very much subjective, but here are a few that are universally held with high regard by players:
Delay: Boss and Digitech both have made excellent delay pedals, Distortion is a large category but the RAT, The Original Ibanez seasick green Tube Screamer are really popular. The Tubescreamer should be vintage and not one of the crappy sound tanks though. For Overdrive, I think hands down it's the Boss Blues Driver. Hands down the purple Boss Flanger is the best. For a phaser I think most are pretty equal in all honesty, but I'd recommend the DOD on that one. I had it and it had a great tone. Boss's was probably equally as good. Chorus wise I think either a boss or DOD pedal is the way to go. DOD's bass chorus is superior to the Boss Bass chorus in my opinion. Noise gates, EQ and compressors are pretty much just "utility" pedals and brands don't really matter there. If you want to stick with one brand and not mix and match, I think Boss is the brand to go with.
