i want to change the gear ratio in my lower unit. 1994 60 hp. big foot series..motor is on a small bass boat.
should i find another lower unit with the higher gears. i think 1.67 to 1. and the bigfoot series 2.3 to 1. dont need the low gears on a 14 ft bass boat but the price i got on the motor was a cant pass on. also is the lower unit housing and leg part larger and heavier than what would be on a non-bigfoot 60 horse. i would like to keep the weight down on the back of the boat if a lighter lower unit is an option. any input on the best way to do this would be great.would the lower unit off of a like year mercury 60 horse bolt on.
why would you want to change the gears when you can get the same result by just changing the prop? go talk to a good prop shop.
