How much money is a 57 gibson es 125 in excellent condition worth?
My dad has owned it for the past 40 years and has kept it in great shape, there is hardly a scratch on it.
My dad tells me that his '64 ES-125 is worth over $6000 bucks. He says that 20 years ago, when he bought it at a garage sale for $30, he told his friend and his friend offered him $200 bucks on the spot without a question as to the condition it was in.
Looking on eBay it looks like they go for about $1000 - $4000. It really depends on the buyer. Are you selling to some kid who just thinks it looks nice, or a Gibson collector? The collector will be willing to pay more.
There are also different models of the ES-125: Thinline, double pickups, etc. etc. You'll have to do some more research on what yours is.
I've also heard that apparently the cherry red finish gets a lot higher than the yellow sunburst finish. *shrug* I think the sunburst is prettier, but whatever's rarer, I suppose...
My advice, though, is hold on to that thing if you play or ever think you will play guitar, and if you don't hold on to it, sell it to a family member or a good friend, not just some random person. For one thing, it's a beautiful guitar, and if yours is as well made as mine is (Why shouldn't it be?) it has a beautiful sound as well. If it needs electronic repair, go get it repaired at a VERY reputable dealer. Secondly, it's a family heirloom of sorts.
Don't be afraid to enjoy it and play it. It's made of wood, not fine crystal. Guitars are meant to be played. Be careful with it, of course, but take it out of its case every once in a while
