i've just bought a fender deluxe reverb and...?
i love it almost way too much! the thing looks old, very old, but it sounds terrific... i was wondering if anyone can help me figure out if it is vintage or just a re-issue...
i'm not entirely sure if the tubes are stock or replaced but this thing is rockin'
a rca 5u4gb rectifier,
a pair of ruby 6v6gtb power tubes
and 6 electro-harmonix preamps (don't know what type, the tubes are bare of info)...
be great just to know how old the thing is.
If it's vintage, the tubes would have been replaced through the years, so you can't go by the brands. The folks at the Fender Discussion Page can answer a lot of questions: http://www.fenderforum.com/forum.html?message_area_number=14
The most obvious difference between the vintage and reissues is that the vintage amps are point-to-point wiring as opposed to circuit boards for the reissues. You'd have to pull the head out to verify that. The head slides out the back and is held in by screws on the top of the cabinet.
The Fender Amp Field Guide can help you identify a lot of the differences. Some of the cosmetic differences are subtle...a half inch variation in height, different grille cloth, etc.

Is yours a silverface? Those are the ones which used a 5U4GB rectifier....That would put it between 1968 and 1982. You can narrow down the year by the color of the grille cloth and the serial numbers.

No matter which year, it's a great amp! A word of caution: If this is truly vintage, you need to find out if it has had a "cap job." The old capacitors can deteriorate with age. When they fail, they can ruin the amp. All of us vintage amp owners have cap jobs and also a 2 prong to 3 prong power cord conversion.
