do i need a cube other than a distortion pedal for creating effects with my electric guitar?

i just have a TRS guitar cable with me, with which i usually plug my guitar to my cube. And now when i plug that directly into distortion unit, no effect comes. Do i need another TRS cable??

Yes. You need a cable to go from the guitar to the distortion pedal. Then another cable to the amp. You really need to talk to a specialist though because sometimes pedals do not take particular cables.

Visit a music shop and they should let you try some out.
