How can i persuade my mum to let me get a rat?
I want a pet rat but my mum says they're dirty filthy creatures. Is this true? How much are they? How friendly? How do I care for them?
Rats are excellent pets, and are far removed from their wild cousins. Rats are not filthy, in fact they are one of the cleanest rodents, and they do not carry disease. They are very friendly and affectionate (if you get one from a breeder that is well-socialized) and actually WANT to be played with. Mine will jump up on the bars whenever I walk into the room, wanting to come out and be held.
Rats are very easy to care for, they simply need a cage, food, water, and love! They cost around $8 - $15, depending where you get them, but if you do end up getting one please look for a breeder near you as you will get a much healthier, friendlier pet.
