I need guitar amp help please!?
so i'm thinking about buying this amp:
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Behringer-VTone-GM108-15W-Modeling-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=480698
but I'm new at this whole guitar amp thing, and I was wondering what kind of cables and pedals and stuff that I would need? I was thinking about getting this pedal:
http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Danelectro-Fab-Slap-Echo?sku=151844
but how do I know if it even goes with the amp I want? or what kind of cable to get? please help!
please don't get a line 6 amplifier. They have a very harsh sound that is definitely all their own. A more neutral amp would be way better to start off with.
I take it your either a beginner or just starting off. I can only assume you are based off of the question. A echo pedal is the last thing you need at the moment. honestly just about any amp will do, the less money spent the better at this point. Anything in the $100 range will become a doorstop quickly. pretty much any amp that is under 50 watts should be considered dispensable unless it's a tube amp.
Behringer gear is attractive for its features but they are the least reliable brand in the guitar industry. either it works and you love it or they stop working and you are left with a headache.
try visiting a small guitar shop in your area. they usually carry smaller less expensive brands. sometimes its more money since they cannot offer discounts based off of bulk ordering. As far as cables go, just get some Monster cables. They are fairly rugged, and they really do sound better than cheap cables. Also, I truly believe you don't need an amp. A good electric guitar should be plenty resonant to be used to practice with without the amp. I understand it defies the purpose of having an electric guitar, but any amp that is not loud enough to jam with is a waste of money. use the money that would have been spent on that cheap amp of something that will have a much longer useful life span.
The guitar industry is designed to make you want a practice amp, than you will want a amp loud enough to jam with. after that you will be tone savvy enough to want something like an Orange or Fender. that is a lot of money spent that wasn't necessary. the same goes for the guitar itself. These babysteps are in place because a large portion of beginners quit, and because its simply a cash cow.
Personally i would recommend the Fender Frontman 25r. decent wattage, versatile sound, and fairly common. found one on my local craigslist for 70 used. solidstate stuff lasts forever.
