Dog chewed through black protective covering on laptop's power cord?
Can I just bandage it up with some electrical tape? The wiring is intact and not harmed.
Same problem here. Same solution. If the insulation on the individual wires is still in tact, then you should be alright. If the insulation is damaged, then you may want to splice the whole deal or get a replacement cord.
Splicing it goes like this:
Cut the cord at the chewed section.
Strip the outer cover back about two inches on one side, one inch on the other.
Strip the wires back about 1/2 inch.
Place a heat shrink tube over the cord.
Place a heat shrink tube over the individual wires before you solder each wire back together.
Shrink the tubes over the individual wires and then the tube over the cord.
It's a pain in the ass, but it's really the only acceptable way to permanently fix it.
