weird latency problem when recording guitar with mixer?
im trying to record over a song with Audacity. i have my electric guitar hooked up to an effects pedal to a mixer to my computer.
But theres this weird delay...when i play a not on my guitar there is about a half second delay before it goes to the computer. It obviously messes up how the recording sounds A LOT.
i have been trying to research it and as far as i can tell the only solution i have is moving up to something more expensive from the soundboard...maybe up to "digital" recording. whatever that is.
I am using a Behringer mixer...the cheapest one they have with only a single channel as I nly use it to just record my guitar. I have read that Behringer in general is crap...is this the culprit? the fact that the brand is behringer?
What you are doing IS digital recording. You're recording. It's digital. There it is.
The latency could come from a lot of things, but most likely I think it's that your computer may be slow. With Audacity, you can compensate for any latency by going to Edit>>Preferences. Under the Audio I/O section, there is a box entitled "Latency". In the text area that says Latency Correction, enter 500 (since you said it was about half a second.) Try recording again and adjust that number until it's just right. Keep in mind, it may have to be more like -500. I haven't used Audacity in a while and I've forgotten which way the thing goes. You may also want to make sure that "Software Playthrough" (also in the Audio I/O section) is unchecked.
If none of this works you can always just move the object within the track backwards about half a second. It'll be annoying, but it'll fix the sound of the recording.
