Can I replace my car's speakers myself, and what kind should I get?
I just bought a '97 Pontiac Grand Am, and the speakers are totally shot. The bass has to be turned almost completely off to reduce the rattling/crackling noise that comes from the speakers (I think only in the front?). I don't know anything about car audio systems myself, but I'm wondering if I were to buy the right speakers, and get instructions from the internet or something, would I be able to install them myself? I absolutely can't afford to have it done professionally, so it's either a DIY job or nothing at all!
I was also wondering if the sound quality relies a lot on the actual stereo itself... if I get decent speakers but keep the same stereo, will it sound much better or just take the crackle away?
And, can anyone recommend a good brand of affordable speakers?
Oh yeah, and if anyone knows what type of speakers I would need for this car, that would be really helpful too.

well first of all you will have to find out what size speakers you have in the doors, they will either be a 4'' or 6''. it is really easy to do yourself, you just take the old ones out and put the new 1s in, just use all the same wiring and stuff. IMO go for JVC speakers, best value for money.
