Is the Remington Model 597 .22 LR semi-auto rifle any good?
It's on special at Bass Pro, should i buy it? I know they are not known for their .22 work but
what do you think based on experience? I just want a fun target gun for my kids and me.
The 597 is a nice 22 rifle. Its more accurate than a standard 10-22 rifle and has tighter tolerances. Because it has tighter tolerances it must be kept clean. Failure to keep it clean will result in jams.
Now the early 597 had issues with the ejector and some magazines. Remington sent those owners replacement parts (by request of owner) and from what I’ve heard it fixed the problem and they new ones don’t have this issue much. But you cant feed them thousands of rounds without cleaning them like a 10-22 ruger.
Personally I think its far better than the 10-22 and many other 22 rifles because of its accuracy. But if you don’t like cleaning your rifle after every use I would suggest a different rifle.
