Authorized Retailer

According to Brand X’s warranty information, they will only honor warranty issues concerning the end user if and only if the end user purchased their product from an authorized retailer.

My question, do I need to ask the retailer if they are authorized dealers for the said brand product?

Assuming they are not authorized dealers, can I be held responsible for product that needs to be repaired under the normal warranty time period?
