How to make music effects/recording sounds?
I want to start making music , but I'm not too sure on how to make all the effects. I'm using an electric and acoustic-electric guitar. what equipment should I get in order, and what specific equipment would you recommend ? it would also be helpful it was more affordable. thank you.
Hello,
the simple way to start making music without investing too much at once and letting your creativity run free in a familiar environment is to cut some demo recordings at home. You're going to need a decent PC, a semi-professional audio interface, an amplifier and two microphones.

Basically, you can record an acoustic-electric guitar either in the same way you'd record an acoustic one (using a condenser microphone to capture its sound) or capture the sound directly from the cable - this is the sound from its pickup. Many musicians think that it's best to combine the two types of sounds to get a richer texture for the guitar in the overall mix: record acoustically with a condenser microphone, at first; then move on to capturing the sound from the pickup.
Electric guitars can be a challenge to record at home or in any uncontrolled environment. Still, there are options:
- you can plug the guitar directly into the audio interface and then add amplifier simulators + effects from software like GuitarRig or Amplitube
- you can buy a 20-30Watt amplifier and record the signal from its line-out, then add only a cabinet simulator + effects from GuitarRig or Amplitube
- you can invest in a better amp and record it with microphones in a controlled, phonetically isolated room, with analog effects
